Philippine science entrance exam
I have been talking to my nieces about taking the entrance exam for the seventh grade in Philippine Science since last week. This science high school is the premier high school back home, with all students as government scholars with a monthly stipend to boot! The curriculum is made up of higher education subjects that are normally taken up in college so it is a very good foundation if you want to further your knowledge especially in the sciences. Since they are studying in a public school in the Philippines, they are more exposed to the ins and outs of the Philippine public school system and last week their teacher handed out reviewers for the said entrance exam. When I was young I didn't have any idea about that exam in Philippine Science though I heard about the one in Manila Science because my close friend in elementary school took that and eventually studied there. My parents didn't actually consider me fit to study there anyway because of my asthma. Well, back to my nieces, I got so excited that I googled when the exam would be and this year it's going to happen on the 14th of October with the deadline for application on August 15. So I pestered them to collate all necessary documents for the application. Eunice was quite apprehensive about it but Lois was all for it. So we decided on giving a reward if they pass that test. I know it's a long shot to get in especially with the number of takers and the limited slots available but as I always tell them, if they don't try, they wouldn't have known what could have happened. I think it's better to know that you've tried rather than having regrets for not even trying. I called them again a while ago and Lois told me that a representative from Philippine Science went to their school to talk about the test, the school, the science curriculum and what to expect if they get in. This got them a little more excited about the prospect of going there. I just wanted them to start building dreams for themselves, to see a bright future ahead, to know that everything is possible to all who believe. I hope that they will be successful in that application, and then ace that test and generally be successful with their lives afterwards.
