Milestones
It is almost my 100th blog post. Wow. I didn't even imagine that this blog will reach this far. I just wanted a space to write down my thoughts, updates on where we are, what we're doing and stuff like that. Writing has been therapeutic for me, ever since a friend gave me a small diary back in high school. I did fill up that little locked notebook and then some. Its funny when you can actually read back some of the stuff that you wrote. How the dilemmas and the decisions made have shaped my life now.
I've said before in another post how I have the habit of always looking back in the past or look onto the future but rarely live in the present. Now I realize that writing has been my way of preserving memories, feelings, and thoughts that I can always go back to for the fleeting moments that I encounter. And some of those fleeting moments are actually defining milestones that steer the course of my life.
In the bible, I can remember a story about how God instructed the Israelites to go get some stones from the middle of the ocean that He had split in two so they could pass. They were to set up a monument so they can remember how God faithfully guided them and made a way for them (literally!). I think that is also why we celebrate milestones in our lives, so we can pause to reflect, look back and rejoice on the fulfillment of God's promises in our lives. It is not to boast of our achievements but to stay humble and give back the praise to Him who made it possible.
I believe that everybody has different ideas on which milestone in life is significant for them. It might be graduating from college, marriage, having that dream job or even just conquering their fear. Or it might be trivial like trying new cuisines, getting a new hairstyle or just having the hundredth post on your blog! There is no absolute list or rule that everybody has to follow on which milestone is the most important as long as you have that spirit of gratefulness for every step of the way.
