Hurricane Sandy

Last Monday, October 29, the East Coast just had the strongest hurricane I have experienced. It was like something for the history books. And because of the storm, we lost power for 3 nights. Many people in the tri-state area still don't have power now and I know it's hard because of the cold nights that you have to endure without the heat. We suddenly were in survival mode. Honestly, I felt like crying but I have to suck it in so that the fear would not get to me. Not only did we not have lights, but we also were in news blackout because we did not have internet, and the phone signals were out too. And as my phone would have it, after one night, the battery did not last. When Tuesday morning came, we went to check out the train and bus stations and we found out that the PATH trains and NJ Transit were not in operation. Meanwhile, we could hardly reach anybody by phone. At that time it was just so confusing on what really is happening. Karl and I spent every single minute with each other. When nighttime strikes and all you can see is darkness, we just entertained ourselves with old-time kwentuhan and singing too! These are the times that I am thankful that I am friends with my husband. We don't really run out of things to make kwento about. We also prayed together and just have faith that God would help us survive one more cold night. When Wednesday came, Karl planned to get to work but we didn't know how he would get to New York. So after we surveyed Journal Square and saw that the Latino buses were runing, we just came back to the apt, ate breakfast then went to New York together via the Latino Bus. We even saw Ma'am Lulu (from Ruddell) in JSQ and rode the bus with her. We got to NY after an hour and a half, and spent some time in the Port Authority Bus Station to charge our phones. We then ate lunch in McDonalds and check out Karl's office. We got home at around 7 pm. The next day, Karl went to work and I just stayed at home and at around noon time, we got our power back on! Today I was the one doing the surveying on how I would get to work since the subways aren't really close to being operational in the next few days. This really has been an ordeal for everyone on this area. My heart goes out to those people who have lost their homes or their loved ones because of the storm. But through it all, we felt that God never left us nor have forsaken us. He has been our strength, our shield, our provision, and our comfort.
