Stay at the Astoria Ortigas

I've mentioned at another post that we stayed at the Astoria Ortigas before we left for Sydney. This is a review of our stay at this hotel. The only reason that we actually stayed at this hotel is because of the free 1 night stay gift certificate that was given us when we attended another Club Astoria presentation while we were in Boracay. Since we already have an idea of the timeshare business since we first attended a free dinner/presentation 3 years ago, we ended up getting the membership this time around. So before we actually left boracay, we already asked Mr. Leo Pamahoy (our presenter) to book us that coming Tuesday, Feb 5, so we could redeem the one night stay. So when Tuesday came, we packed some clothes and headed first to NTA where Kenny's parents work and had lunch with them. Then we went to Project 4 to talk to kirby and get directions for our destination and then headed finally to the Astoria in Ortigas. It wasn't that hard locating the hotel. It has a blue facade outside so you could easily recognize it from the other buildings there. After parking in the basement (which was way down under the building), we headed toward the main lobby to check-in. I was surprised that they don't have a large and spacious lobby like other hotels we've stayed at. When we told a front desk officer that we were checking in, they lead us to a small office beside the main lobby. I realized that this is where club astoria members check-in since there were others there clutching the club astoria packet we received in Boracay. We learned that they also have a shuttle service that can take you to the various malls in the vicinity so we also booked a shuttle since we planned to go to Megamall to buy some new clothes for Kenny. After the instructions of the front desk officer, we headed for the elevators. We were assigned a unitjust beside the elevator so we didn't have to look too far. The unit we stayed at was a 1 bedroom unit that has an open concept living and dining area with a small kitchen. They also had a welcome letter that was waiting for us at the dining table. That for me is a sincere and touching gesture, especially that we are only new members to the club. The kitchen had complete amenities with a refrigerator, microwave oven, stove, plates, and almost everything you need in a kitchen. The room was also spacious, with a very comfortable king size bed, built-in wardrobes, a study table, and an on-suite bathroom. The view from the bedroom window was very urban. Being in the Ortigas business district, one could see the tall buildings in the surrounding area. So after resting for awhile, we headed back downstairs to the main lobby to wait for our shuttle. We were dropped off at the side entrance of Megamall and after three hours, we went there again to be picked up. It's like having your own chauffeur in the city. Going back at the Astoria, we waited for sometime for kenny's family. They went there to look at the place. We actually invited them to stay for the night, however, visitors were only allowed unitl 12 pm. After the initial pleasantries, the kids and I went and explored the other amenities like the gym and the pool. It was already dark outside so I'll just post a picture from the website. We didn't have time to sample the pool though. Maybe next time. They stayed for only a couple of hours since it was getting late. So after they left us, we had time to rest. In the morning, we packed our stuff and got ready to check-out since our stay did not come with free breakfast. At check-out, the front desk officer said that they have to check the room first for damages and whatnot. So we waited for sometime until they finished. Then we were handed a bill for PHP600+ that includes a broken drinking glass, local call and a bath mat. We disputed the bath mat charge because honestly I don't think they really had a bath mat there in the first place. After an uncomfortable exchange with the front desk officer we just ended up paying for the call and the glass. We left shortly thereafter and concluded our first stay at the Astoria. Next time we'll try other Astoria resorts in the country when we have fully paid for our membership.
